This is a great story, Steve, only sorry I'm so late finding it. It reminded me of a year my family spent living in Queens NYC when I was eight years old. We had very little money back then, but we could afford a weekly trek to the public library. As an added treat if it was hot we sometimes would get an Italian Ice to slurp down on the way back to our apartment. One of the greatest gifts a child can receive is to learn the joy of reading, whether it comes from parents, grandparents, or teachers. I've often felt that books were my salvation during some tough times growing up, and when I read a really great book I always love wondering about the writer and how they came to create it. These days Google can help answer some of those ponderings! Thanks for a great story, I look forward to reading more of them as I journey down the Write Road.

Lovely … I’m the little amid my littles who read but not often in mortar places as once was… One was writing a parallel to the famed Harry as the younger not-before seen sister… The other is just into magical mysteries, and their mother chefs up fantastical epicurean adventures…and my husband simulates flight anywhere he cares to see… Sidelong with all this: me, spriting words.

Enjoyed this, Steve! I am a reader, too, and love libraries. I tend to read things I like to read, but have been adding more challenging works to my 'to read' list. Like many readers, I suspect, I often have two or three books I am reading and choose which to read depending on the time of day or my mood.

Terrific story, Steve. A library is my second favorite place to be reading. I'll leave you to imagine my most favorite 😀

This is awesome Steve. Love that your Littles have an amazing reading habit. It’s something they will enjoy forever. I would say I definitely have a variety in what I read, but shy away from topics I flat out don’t like or can’t relate to. May have to rethink that. Reading has always been a “get away from it all” activity for me much like movies. You forget everything else when you are whisked away in a book 📕

Thank you! You might check the next issue to see why I recommend books you don't agree with.

Ah, Steve, your current issue has evoked such memories! I grew up in extremely-small-town North Dakota (like, 160 people small). Our closest library was 26 miles away in Devils Lake. For my older brother, two sisters, and me, every Wednesday was piano-lesson-library-grocery-shopping day in Devils Lake. Mom would drive us in our light blue 1955 DeSoto station wagon. Mrs. Horne was the librarian. We were each allowed to check out only five books at a time. We would have them all read in a week, so we could return them the following Wednesday and check out five more each. I’m so grateful to my parents for encouraging reading! They were avid readers too, and we had an extensive collection of “grown up” books at home, which I inherited when they died. It’s now in my home office on the very same large, beautiful, hand-crafted bookcase we had so many years ago...
